Hello! Everything is great in South Africa! I am having a really fun time here in Fish Hoek with Elder Wilhelmsen! The area though is kind of struggling and we are kind of stressed about that... we know that this area has a lot potential but we are not sure what to do. We work in a township called Masiphumelele but we want to start teaching in the more stable areas. That's just been the biggest struggle now.. but its all good I know the Lord will provide a way :)
This week was very interesting! We were all over the place this week. To start we had a interesting conversation with one of the members in Sunnydale, which is the more suburbia.. but anyways,we went to go visit them and since I'm new in the area I just wanted to meet and get to know them. So the McClains ( elderly couple ) are the members we went to go see and while we were their we got to know them pretty well. But for some reason we go the subject of ancestors and witch craft and she told us that her mother was a person that talked with spirits and that she see's dead people... ( she said it just like the little kid did on the "sixth sense" ) it was a little freaky at first but we just rolled with it.. haha then we talked about her mom and how her mother was a great woman and that her mother told her that the church was good and that she need to be involved in the church. So that's kind of where we ended things which was nice cuz I just wanted to move on and leave, but they are a great family and super strong in the church. I think that they are kind of lonely because she didn't want us to leave she just wanted to keep on talking!
This week we had our ward Christmas party!! whoop whoop!! haha it was sweet! They had games and treats and of course PRESENTS!! We did a white elephant swap. It was cool, The presents we brought were a foam ball, a wooden dice, and two bracelets we found on the street (they were actually really nice bracelets, and everything else we found in our boarding ) but what do you expect from poor missionaries that don't have money hahaha but it was fun! :)
Then on Sunday we had a stake Christmas concert! It was an outside concert and it was beautiful! So many great singers and there was a ton of people! A lot of non members! Which was nice but we had to go there as a zone and help with parking and with the seating! It was sweet! It was a nice end to the week!
The Christmas concert was a great reminder of the self sacrifice of the Only Begotten Son of the Father, and the love that He has for all of us to give us His son to die for us!! He has given us hope when we're are in despair, forgiveness for the repentant, and joy to those seeking for the truth!
I hope we all can realize His self sacrifice for us all this Chirstmas season!! There is also this website that the church put up on why A Savior was born! It's christmas.mormon.org if you haven't seen it already, please go and watch those videos!!
I hope you all have a great rest of the week and I'm always praying for the family!!
LOVE,
ELDER FONUA
